5/12/2023 3 WAYS TO GET OFF THE SOFAWe all know that exercise is beneficial for us, right? Whether it's CrossFit, Bodybuilding or a simple walk, exercise can provide so many benefits. That doesn't mean it's easy to start and as we move into Winter, it's not getting any easier. Below I'm going to outline 3 ways that will help you get up off the sofa, start moving and to make it a regular habit. 1. Get outside.
Staying in the same place (your living room) makes it very hard to get yourself up and moving. That doesn't mean you have to do anything complicated; you don't suddenly need to get hiking gear and start hiking today. Set aside some time and go for a walk. Get to the beach, walk down the high street, give a friend a call and go for a coffee. It really can be this simple. Start small, get outside and get some "me time" even if just for a short while. This can eventually turn into more but start with something that isn't overwhelming and you'll be on the path to changing your habits. 2. Breath. Before you do anything, get present and check in with yourself. Concentrate in breathing in through your nose and out through your nose. Now take a second and go through the following: What are 5 things you can see? What are 4 things you can hear? What are 3 things you can touch? What are 2 things you can smell? What is 2 thing you can taste? Once you've completed this, take one more breath and stand up. Time to do something. 3. Find yourself someone that can help. I don't necessarily mean a therapist. I mean a friend, family member or acquaintance that can help you out. Think who might be willing to help you and reach out to them. Will they go for a walk with you once a week? Do they want to try out a new fitness regime with you? Or maybe, they just want to grab a coffee? Just because something is good for you, doesn't mean your brain will want to do it. We will always choose the easy route given the option. It's human nature. Following the steps above can make a huge difference to whether you're going to spend your time in a positive way or not.
