We hope you are all enjoying the fine weather that has arrived at last! Our programming will carry on for June in a similar vein, normally around this time we would do a bodyweight week and a test week but given the last year has been bodyweight for pretty much everyone we will skip that for the year. However, now you are all getting stronger we will start to introduce some 1 rep max lifts. This will give you a benchmark to work from and also help you goal plan.
Coaches and Coaching
Jared is off to get his Level 2 certification on the weekend of the 5/6th June, this is one of the best weekends I ever spent in terms of CrossFit – the calibre is unbelievably high and you learn so much, enjoy Jared and you’ll be wrecked on Monday!
We are formalising our Instructor Training Programme, this means all coaches will meet at least once a month for CPD, feedback and learning. We are also using this to train up members to become Level 1 coaches. This will involve shadowing a coach for 2 classes per week, passing your Level 1 qualification and then onwards from there to independent coaching. We would really like to train up members from our own box, so if you think this is something you are interested in then speak to Alex, Jared or Mel and we’ll get the ball rolling!
Well done to all those who did Murph or even half Murph over the BH weekend! It is probably one of the most gruelling CrossFit workouts out there, especially if you do it in order! It’s great to see everyone getting into it, especially our new starters. Normally we would have a big BBQ afterwards but we’ll aim to get one in during July or August!
Welcome to new members Sam Matthews, Beth Cutteridge, Lizzie Ribeiro and Shawn Clements! We have a number of people doing their trial week, so please do remember to say hi and make everyone feel welcome, we all know how hard it is to start and a big part of CrossFit is that team and community spirit!
For those of you who haven’t but are active on Facebook please do join our members group. If you are not that’s fine, it’s why we do the regular emails although sometimes I might miss the odd update!
I mentioned this last time but as a reminder - Please can you update your birthday on Octiv to the correct month and date if it isn’t already? The year is inconsequential, but we would like to wish people a happy birthday on the correct day if possible!
A final reminder that new pricing comes into effect from the 7th June. All current monthly memberships are unchanged but pay as you go and class block memberships will go up. If you want to move or upgrade, you have until next Monday to do it. From then the new pricing will be as follows:
Unlimited Membership: £64.00
3x a Week: £58.00
10x Session Block: £75
5x Session Block: £40
Drop in: £8.00
Thank you for your ongoing support and enjoy the box!
We are extremely excited to be able to get back to doing what we love - proving top quality, coaching in small groups to novices and CrossFit veterans alike! CrossFit was already made for social distancing with everyone getting their own space to use a barbell, do box jumps and swing a kettlebell. We were gutted when fast food restaurants were allowed to open ahead of us, especially when the government keeps emphasising the need for people to be fit and healthy but at least now we are ready! We made a few kit purchases over lock down, as well as using it as an opportunity to do all those jobs on on the To Do list that that we had been avoiding - no one likes painting 1500 sq ft of walls!
If you are looking to start your fitness journey then come over to CrossFit Wolfram. Unlike 'functional fitness' gyms a CrossFit box has a clear system of programming, coaching as well as a culture of inclusivity and fun. There is a reason it went from 1 gym in the US to over 15,000 world wide in a little under a decade!
On the 25th July we get to open our doors to all of our members and potential new members!
We have put in place guidance signs, provided hand sanitiser and cleaning wipes as well as marking out spaces for people to train. At first we anticipate a slightly smaller class size than our previous maximum, however, as CrossFit training necessitates physical space for all participants this is actually not too much of a change and most likely we will be looking at going from 12 to 8 people per class.
What is going to be different is the mixing of kit. Previously a workout might have used the rig, boxes, a barbell, some weights and a skipping rope. But now, in order to maximise cleaning efficiency we will be limiting the amount of kit per workout.
Our new (temporary) timetable is up on our website and we are SO excited to have the opportunity to coach and train together again! WELCOME BACK TO WOLFRAM!
